Parties, Awesomeness & the #HoCoDookies

Party at Alexandra’s Restaurant – Jan 15th

Good conversation, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, live music, a beautiful space, cocktail-making tips from a mixologist, half-price wine bottles, a new menu, and great food at special prices (it’s Howard County’s Winter Restaurant Weeks). All this and more is yours to enjoy at the next HoCoBlogs party. Bloggers and their readers are welcome to attend. Deets and a request for RSVPs here.

The Dookies continue

If you’re new to the hoco blog community, the annual Dookies awards may be new to you. Started by Ian Kennedy (HoCo Hayduke) and continued by Dennis over the years, it’s a sweet — and sometimes not-so-sweet — DIY awards and nominations for awards of your creation and for reasons of your choosing. With Dennis’s death last year, Ian has picked up the mantle again. You can read his piece and his #HoCoDookies starter awards here. In honor of Dennis, the community of which you’re a part, and the many bloggers who contribute to the ecosystem of awesomeness in Columbia and Howard County, it’d be lovely if you had a Dookie award to offer to your fellow bloggers.

Howard Magazine rocks Twitter

Have you noticed that Howard Magazine asks a question on Twitter and then publishes the tweeted responses in their mag? Want to participate? The question to answer is “My favorite holistic remedy is … .” Tweet  your answer to @HowardMagazine for possible inclusion in their next issue.

Tell me you saw this! It may have riled you up or made you roll your eyes, but in either case, it was An Event! Others have written about it, but the attribution of a damning quote about Columbia to VEEP star Julia Dreyfus Louis had a number of Columbians and Howard Countians up in arms … well, at least up in tweets. Big ups to Ilana Bittner of HoCoMoJo for leading the charge on #MoreThanGateway and Mr. Ulman and, by way of history, Ian Kennedy, for transforming the momentum into #AwesomeColumbia.
